A Regional Community of Change Makers
The Green Inclusive Resilient Entrepreneurship Ecosystem (GIREE) Alliance was established in 2024 as a regional platform dedicated to promoting and strengthening nature-based and climate-smart entrepreneurship across the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region. It emerged through collaborative efforts of key ecosystem actors, including government agencies, private sector representatives, academia, and development partners, who recognized the need for a coordinated mechanism to support green, inclusive, and resilient enterprise development.
The Alliance was formally set up following a series of consultative workshops and dialogues held under the leadership of ICIMOD in Nepal with technical support from KGS Inc. and active involvement from regional institutions in the HKH region. Its governance structure consists of a Board, a Secretariat, with technical support from KGS Inc. (GIREE Secretariat) and active involvement from regional institutions in the HKH region.

Our Focus
GIREE Alliance envisions a future where the unique potential of the HKH region: its biodiversity, indigenous knowledge, and cultural heritage is harnessed through nature-positive entrepreneurship to create livelihoods that are not only economically viable but also socially just and environmentally regenerative. In this future, mountain entrepreneurs are no longer marginalized but are central actors in shaping local solutions to global challenges; empowered with access to resources, networks, and supportive institutions.

By establishing strong partnerships and encouraging the sharing of resources among stakeholders, the alliance aims to create a robust ecosystem for entrepreneurship in the HKH region.

The alliance pushes for policy reforms that promote environmentally friendly and socially inclusive entrepreneurship, particularly focusing on marginalized communities.

We place a strong emphasis on capacity-building, especially for women, youth, and other disadvantaged groups, to ensure they have the tools and resources they need to succeed.

The alliance focuses on nurturing entrepreneurship that addresses regional challenges like climate change, poverty, and resource constraints, ensuring that the solutions are both scalable and impactful.

GIREE represents a growing regional movement of incubators, accelerators, and ecosystem enablers across the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. Today, our alliance spans five countries and 13 member organizations—each playing a critical role in strengthening local entrepreneurial ecosystems. Together, we create a platform where local action meets regional collaboration, generating the collective momentum needed to drive transformative and catalytic change across our region.
